Bon Echo - Joeperry Lake Learn to Backcountry camp Canoe Trip

  • After checking in at the main gate and receiving the parking permit, guests will drive over to Joperry Lake Parking and prepare for a Learn to Backcountry camp experience! Meeting at noon, we’ll have a brief trip orientation to our style of wilderness camping and canoe tripping, as well as some direction on how the forest therapy activities will be integrated into the trip. Get to know who you’ll be paddling with, ask your questions, and have your gear checked to be sure it is waterproofed, if you require. Then we will do our only portage down to the lake and load the canoes for our Forest Bathing canoe adventure. After a brief refresher on paddling strokes on the water, we will set off from the put-in and head out to our campsite. The Guides will help draw you toward moments of mindful reflection as we move through the water towards the place where we’ll first connect with our surroundings. Once we find our campsite, you’ll set up your tents, gather firewood, and explore the area before dinner. Enjoy quiet time around the fire listening to the loons or the occasional barred owl, and experience moments of peace and contentment during the evening’s simple activities before tucking in for the night. Breathe deep these first moments of peace.

We will also spend time learning about prepping food for trips and some of the ins and outs of planning a backcountry excursion. Feel your heartbeat slow as you ground yourself to the earth again. Work on an art project, enjoy a swim, go for a leisurely paddle, and continue with the invitation to Sit Spot in this part of the woods. The afternoon will be filled with a 3 hour Forest Bathing session from our Forest Therapy Guide to continue our journey of healing and growth.
